Problem with XP "Welcome" boot screen after AVG?

Some background, my little sister recently got a virus on her computer that networked into my computer and I had to go clean it up. I used AVG and everything is gone and clear and happy as can be; except for one minor problem. When I boot my system everything loads blazingly fast as per usual with the exception of the "Welcome" screen on XP. I can hear all my programs booting in the background and people send me messages on MSN, but the "Welcome" screen just sits there for about 15 seconds or so. It is kind of driving me nuts and I have googled all variations of the possible issue to no avail. I have searched for a few hours and I come here in the hopes of an answer. As a note my system is quite new and is clean and free of Viruses/spyware to the best of my knowledge. It is a intel core2duo 6750 with 4 gigs of OCZ ram and an Asus geforce 8800 ultra, so I can't imagine the welcome screen would be slow because of the system. I uninstalled AVG, but the lengthy load lingers.

Have you tried doing a system restore back to the point prior to when you installed AVG?
