i have had personal info stolen and want ot make my comp so air tight no matter waht the cost it squeaks when it walks if you catch the drift i am runniong avast free and have spyware doc also free i wont use black ice cause it messed up my comp so i plan on buying the paid versions of spyware doc and avast soon unless i hear of a better alternitive

Often a combination of anti-spyware, firewall and antivirus is best. There are many different anti-spyware programs available, ex. Spy Sweeper. As for firewall, Windows comes with a firewall, just make sure you turn it on from the Control Panel, if your anti-virus program doesn't come with one. And as for the antivirus, I personally prefer Norton Internet Security because it comes with both a firewall and antivirus. But if you want free antivirus, stick with AVG.

As for the personal info, lock all important files and keep them safe. If you are throwing out an old PC, use a drive cleaner to wipe the drive clean - there are many free tools, just read the writeup before using any one.

Don't be paranoid about security; if your personal data is stolen once, chances are it won't happen again. But, of course, take some, if not all, the precautions above.
